The ACT Story

1973
Company Founder David Grant begins his career successfully running a security alarm company based in the North West. He quickly realises the need for specialist tools for the alarm installer and sets about designing and developing his own range.

1983
Checkmate, a patented radio linked test meter, is launched. It was the world's first meter of its kind and was used for finding faults and potential faults in circuits.

1986
ACT Meters Ltd established. Building on the foundations laid by Checkmate, ACT begins developing a unique range of test equipment and battery testers specifically for the security, fire and CCTV industry.

1998
The ACT RED-IBT 12V Intelligent Battery Tester is launched at IFSEC Birmingham, a leading annual global security event. Received to high acclaim, this revolutionary product simulated a full 20-hour battery discharge test in just 6 seconds.

1999
SIA (Security Industry Association) New York awarded ACT RED-IBT 12V Intelligent Battery Tester with technical achievement for false alarm reduction.

2000
BSIA (British Security Industry Association) awarded ACT RED-IBT 12V Intelligent Battery Tester with product technical achievement..

2003
TYCO (ADT), a world leader in electronic security and fire protection, agreed to purchase ACT products on regular consignment - TYCO remains a key customer today.

2004
The RED-IBT's battery testing range was increased and relaunched as the GOLD-IBT.

2005
NSI (National Security Inspectorate) and SSAIB (Security Systems & Alarm Inspection Board) approved alarm installers in the UK were granted a 15% online discount on selected ACT products. Discounts for approved companies remain in place today.

2010
After 60,000 worldwide sales, the GOLD-IBT 12V Intelligent Battery Tester was discontinued due to a key component no longer being manufactured.

2011
ACT GOLD PLUS 6V/12V Intelligent Battery Tester was launched. With improvements upon its predecessor - it offered dual voltage testing (6V/12V) and a unique Ampere Hour (Ah) Calibration Control allowing SLA, GEL and FLOODED to be tested from the one unit.

2013
ACT Meters launches its refreshed online platform.

2014
ACT Meters produces its best ever battery tester, the ACT 612. Even more accurate with hi-tech analysis software and hi-visibility enclosure.
